Celebrate Hoover Day has been moved to Sunday. But that means you can go to the Noble Street Festival in Anniston instead on Saturday. This festival seems to revolve around watching people go really fast on bikes, bicycles that is. When we say fast, we’re talking 40 mph. That’s scary fast. But the festival does have more to offer. There’s food from area restaurants, a whole day of music, kids’ activities including the McWane Science Center KidZone and more. The music is free and most of the kids’ stuff is too. You’ll have to buy tickets for the food. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The website does say rain or shine so take the umbrellas.

Celebrate Hoover Day? We Love Homewood Day? How do you choose? More after the jump…

I think it’s better that Celebrate Hoover Day has moved to Sunday because otherwise it was competing with We Love Homewood Day which has been around longer and is bigger and has a parade and … you get the idea. As far as we know We Love Homewood Day hasn’t been postponed or canceled yet. To be clear, Celebrate Hoover Day is 1-5 p.m. SUNDAY at Veterans Park on Valleydale Road. We Love Homewood Day is SATURDAY at Patriot Park with various events throughout the day, mostly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The parade is at 6 p.m.

I’d like to briefly mention that Macbeth is the spring offering from the Muse of Fire folks. Shows are Saturday and Sunday at Sloss Furnaces. General admission tickets for the 3 p.m. performances are $25.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, go steal yourself some gardening ideas. At least, that’s why I’m driving around town for the Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ “Glorious Gardens” tour. Seven homes and one farm — you read that right — will be open for you to ooh and ahh over. The farm is the Jones Valley Urban Farm which is really cool and worth checking out. Follow the link because the BBG website has pictures of all the gardens so you can still steal the ideas even if you don’t buy the $25 tickets.

Sunday, if you haven’t had your fill of gardens yet, you can go listen to the music of Peanut (that’s Desiree Fitts on her birth certificate) for FREE at Aldridge Botanical Gardens, 3530 Lorna Road in Hoover. The Concert in the Gardens is from 3-4 p.m. The stroll around the lake isn’t that bad. Quite relaxing.

And that’s what I wish for you — a relaxing weekend.
